Paper Assignment: Choose one chapter of the essay and within that chapter, identify whether this article is an example of good writing. In class, we discussed ten components that a convincing argument needs (see your notes from class). After reading one chapter, review the ten components and choose one of the components as the focus of your one page paper. Spend the entire paper discussing whether or not this component is adequately fulfilled. Since this cannot be a simple 'yes' or 'no' answer, consider the many different directions you could lead into to help you expand your conversation. 1. Perhaps you could discuss 'why' the average reader could easily mistake this information for 'good' research. 2. Explain what dates/sources/facts WOULD be useful to use. 3. Does the author conveniently 'skip' over major information that you think should be included in this argument? 4. What effect does the author gain by delivering information this way. 5. Ultimately, WHO is responsible for weeding out good research and misleading research?
